„New Stories from Khayelitsha“
MOTHER AFRICA presents their new Show:
The Show "Khayelitsha – My home"
The Show "Khayelitsha – my home", which premièred in Germany in 2014, was acclaimed from Helsinki to London and New York. In December 2017, this successful show will now return to Germany featuring a completely new production – with "NEW STORIES FROM KHAYELITSHA"!
With new spectacular performances, powerful music and passionate dances the story carries the audience (off) once again to the South African township "Khayelitsha" – of course as usual with exclusively African artists and 100% brimming with life.
The tour starts on 19 December with several days of performance in Hamburg and will then guest in more than twenty-five cities.
MOTHER AFRICA has been on tour with spectacular themed shows and exclusively African artists for almost twelve years – and has been successful in Australia, Europe and the US alike. The project founded by Winston Ruddle and Hubert Schober in 2006 is more than "just" a circus show. Being the only African circus production, MOTHER AFRICA has continuously and sustainably offered the possibility for artists from the "Dark Continent" to present themselves to on an international audience.
This production has opened up a global career for more than one hundred talents so far. The spectacular themed shows of MOTHER AFRICA are a journey across the continent; they are about great entertainment and artistic high performance – but also about showing Africa's cultural diversity and giving the audience an understanding of the African attitude towards life.
CREATIVE TEAM
Ulrich Thon
Co-Director
Thon's path led him from acting to directing. He founded his own theatre company in Bremen, for which he wrote plays and directed. He put "Das Rilke-Projekt" on stage for the composer duo Schönherz&Fleer, worked with Konstantin Wecker and, among others, took over the direction of the celebration of the Pope's visit on occasion of the World Youth Day and in 2013 that for the German Unity Day. In the past years, he has mainly dedicated himself to variety. For example, he worked for "Fortissimo" at the Krystallpalast Leipzig, numerous GOP shows at home and abroad as well as various "Palazzo" dinner shows and, together with Winston Ruddle, for "Mother Africa".
Hubert Schober
Executive Producer
As organiser, project manager and producer, Huber Schober has been active and successful in the show business for more than 30 years. Whether it is with regional music festivals, variety, dance, and music shows throughout Germany or Chinese circus shows, the 'Soweto Gospel Choir' and 'Mother Africa', he made his projects a success time and again – regionally, throughout Germany and internationally. Together with Winston Ruddle he has been producing African variety shows since 2003 and was hugely successful in Europe, the US and Great Britain as recently as 2016/2017.
Winston Ruddle
Talent Scout & Artistic Director
Ruddle started his career as a clown and tightrope artist at the circus. Born in Zimbabwe, he left his home when he was young and has become a real self-made man. In 2003 Winston Ruddle founded his own circus school in Tanzania and built up a reputation as talent scout even beyond Africa. He scouted formerly unknown talents as artists for André Heller's AFRIKA! AFRIKA!, among others, and founded the circus "MOTHER AFRICA" together with Hubert Schober. By now he has become successful with his artists and productions on practically all continents of the world.
